Member section
The Lagos Yacht Club welcomes any person who is interested in sailing, or interested in learning to sail, to visit the club and apply for membership. Owning a boat is not a requirement to join, but a commitment to actively sail as crew or as a helm is a requirement.
Becoming a member is a simple process to start. Come to the Yacht Club at anytime and get an application form at the bar at the club. Come out on a Saturday afternoon and get to know a few people. They will help you get the form completed. A friendly tip, turn off your mobile phone while you are in the club and don’t ring any of the bells (your new friends will explain).
To become a full member of the club, not only will you need to pay an initial membership fee and then maintain the routine subscription payments, you will need to complete the following requirements:
- Attend a new members evening where club rules will be discussed;
- Demonstrate participation in sailing activities by completing a fixed number of sails within the probation period;
- Perform bridge duty, which is assisting in the running of a Saturday afternoon race.
These membership requirements will be easily completed if you regularly visit the club and participate in sailing activities. These activities are planned for every weekend and most holidays. We typically race on Saturday afternoon and cruise on Sunday.
Below are the general full and crew membership fees as of October 2006 (to be revised in October 2007) for a single family. Corporate memberships are available.
Entry Fee: N 55,000
6-Month Subscription Fee: N 57,000
*Capital Supplement Fee: N 30,000
*Paid once each year in years 2006 to 2009.
