The Lightning / Tarpon fleet is one of the largest in the Club. The 40 boats vary considerably in style; from T1, an original 60 year old locally made wooden Tarpon, to the six, brand new fibre-glass Lightning’s imported from America in 2006. The class has a very active and competitive racing flotilla, with 16 to 20 boats normally participating in Saturday races. There is close communication with the International Lightning Class Association and Lagos is the fully recognised Fleet 510 within that organisation. The size and design also make Lightning’s ideal for cruising and family sailing with several boats frequently venturing up the Creeks and to the beach on a Sunday.
